Principles
How I decide what to build — and what to leave alone.
This studio exists for meaningful work and public good: human-centred technology that leaves an organization more capable than it found it.
-
01
Technology should serve people
Tools exist for the humans using them, not the other way around.
-
02
Simplify before automating
Fix the process first. Automating a tangle just makes a faster tangle.
-
03
Never automate a broken process
If it doesn’t work by hand, it won’t work at scale.
-
04
Use the simplest appropriate tool
The best technology is often the least of it.
-
05
Preserve human judgement where it matters
Especially for sensitive or consequential decisions.
-
06
Make systems understandable
The people who use a system should be able to understand it.
-
07
Design for accessibility and inclusion
If it isn’t usable by everyone it serves, it isn’t finished.
-
08
Respect privacy and data sovereignty
Hold only what’s needed, and keep it where it belongs.
-
09
Measure success by outcomes
Not by the amount of technology deployed.
